Talbot Village aircraft crash 1916

There was an airfield at Talbot Village between 1910 and 1917, the history of which can can be viewed in another "Exhibit" on this website https://www.talbotvillagehistory.org/exhibits/show/talbot-village-aerodrome/1910---flying-school

However the following information refers to just a single occurance regarding the aerodrome at Talbot Village.

During WWI, The Royal Aircraft Factory BE2c registration number 4511 was assigned to and operated by No16 (Reserve) Squadron of the Royal Flying Corps out of Beaulieu in Hamphire. Pilot, 2nd Lieutenant Edward William Wise Rebbeck, was the son of Edward Rebbeck, of Rebbecks Estate Agents in Bournemouth and had flown from Beaulieu on the 24th April 1916, landing at the Talbot Village Aerodrome, (which was located on the area that is where the University now stands).

Shortly after taking of for the return flight to Beaulieu, the aircraft turned, and for whatever reason, lost lift and crashed into the garden of No 6 Talbot Village (now No 88 Wallisdown Road), apparantly colliding with a greenhouse and apple tree, tragically the killing pilot.

The area then was a lot less dense with trees in 1916 than it is today and a relatation of mine Leslie Holloway, who was just a young boy at that time and living at No 4 Talbot Village, which was just two cottages away witnessed the crash.
