Edwin George Pople

Edwin George Pople was born in the December quarter of 1906 and his birth was registered at Wareham, Dorset. On the 6^th of January 1907, he was baptised at Bere Regis, Dorset. His father was George Pople and his mother, Mary Louise.

In the 1911 census, he was aged 4 living at 12 The Grove, Dorchester, with his parents and brother Bertie (8) and a boarder called Jesse Cable. In 1921, he was aged 14, living at 3, Wool, Dorset. He was employed as a Bez Messenger for the GPO. He was living with his parents, and younger brother.

On the 29^th of November, 6^th and 13^th of December, 1931 the banns of marriage were read at St Marks, between Edwin, a bachelor of St Swithins, Headbourne Worthy, (Hants) and Freda Minnie Slade, a spinster of the parish. On the 26^th of December, 1931, he married Freda at St Marks. He was in the Royal Air Force and she lived at the Farm, Talbot Village. In 1931, his marriage was registered at Poole (his wife’s maiden name was Slade). He was employed by the Post Office in 1934 as a post man in Southampton.

On the 22^nd of September, 1945, just 20 days after the end of the 2^nd World War, Edwin died aged 38. His death was registered at Swindon, Wiltshire. On the 26^th of September he was buried at St Marks. He had been living at Pleasant Cottage and was a Squadron Leader. On the 17^th of December 1946, his executors were given a gratuity of £290 5 shillings and 9 pence (about £16,000 in today’s money).
