Frederic George Chick

On the 19^th of September, 1908, Frederick George Chick was born in Yeovil, Somerset, the son of Frederick Chick and his wife Rachel. On the 1^st of November of that year he was baptised in East Coker. His father was a Carter.

In the 1911 census, he was two years old, living in Mall House, Tisbury, Wiltshire, with his father, Frederick Chick, (aged 26, a farm labourer), his mother Rachel (aged 24) and his sister Alice (aged 3). Ten year later, in 1921, he was living at 9 Harley Street, Portsea Island, Hants, listed as George Chick, aged 12 years, 9 months; born in Yeovil, Somerset. He was living with his parents and three sisters, aged 14, 9 and 10 months. His father was a farm carter.

On the 19^th of September 1926, his naval record began when he enlisted for 12 years – his Official number was J113067.

In 1937, on the 20^th of June, 27^th of June and the 4^th of July, the banns of marriage were read in St Marks, between him, a bachelor of HMS Royal Oak and his future wife, Kate Ada Carter, a spinster of the parish. The marriage was subsequently registered in Bournemouth, in the September quarter of that year.

HMS Royal Oak was a Revenge-class battleship, which was sunk in October 1939. It was torpedoed by a German submarine and was the first major British warship sunk in the war.  

On the 31^st of July, 1940, he was invalided out of the navy, due to pulmonary tuberculosis and on the 15^th of January 1941, he died, aged 32, having been based in Bristol. On the 17^th of May, he was buried at St Marks, he was aged 32 and living at 7 Walhurst Road.
